A delegation of the New National Party (NNP) recently met with the Management Committee of the Technical and Allied Workers’ Union (TAWU) at the Union’s Headquarters at Green Street.

The NNP’s delegation which was lead by its Party Chairman, Senator the Honourable Gregory Bowen included Honourable Anthony Boatswain and Mr. Nicholas Steele, Caretaker for Town of St. George Constituency.

Molecular Immunology Center increasing products

MORE than 14,000 patients in Cuba are benefiting from bio-pharmaceuticals produced at the Molecular Immunology Center (CIM), which in 2012 increased products for the treatment of cancer and other non-transmissible chronic illnesses.

These products are currently being exported to close to 30 countries, particularly China and Brazil.

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada -- One of Grenada’s leading trade unions has said that it will resist any attempt to lower the country’s personal income tax (PIT) threshold.

The Technical and Allied Workers’ Union (TAWU) said it is “absolutely opposed” to lowering the PIT ceiling that is being advocated by Aaron Moses, manager of Grenada’s World Bank-sponsored Public Sector Reform Project. He has also served as policy advisor to Prime Minister Tillman Thomas.

Nyon, Switzerland, 3 September 2012: Banks are still making billions of dollars of profits each year while hundreds of thousands of bank workers have lost their jobs since the beginning of the financial crisis. The banks are looking for an unsustainable rate of return of between 15-20% and slashing jobs to try to reach this target. This is one of the key findings of the Banking Job Loss Survey, carried out by UNI Finance, the global union for the banking and insurance industries.

Cuba: Phase Two Prostate Cancer Vaccine Results to be Studied

HAVANA, Cuba , Sept 24 (acn) Heberprovac, a Cuban vaccine against prostate cancer shows positive results in the indicators analyzed during the preliminary studies after the completion of its phase two trials.


The vaccine, sponsored by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in the central Cuban province of Camagüey, was applied to 56 patients in "Madame Curie" Cancer Hospital, in that territory, and the "Vladimir Ilich Lenin", in eastern Holguín province, and its results are being processed at the moment.

Urologist Ramfis Rodriguez, who led the research in Camagüey, told ACN that they will focus on the decrease in the tumor marker values
??or prostate specific antigen, prostate reduction, and little or no testosterone production.
